An enduring passion for creating successful outcomes for his vendors and boundless energy for getting the job done right are the reasons why Calvin Howarth is counted among the most trusted salespersons on the Hibiscus Coast. Raised on the Coast, the Harcourts realtor doesn’t just sell property – he helps families and investors achieve their home ownership goals.

What makes Calvin’s approach to selling homes unique is that he makes sure his clients’ experience is not only rewarding but also enjoyable. “I bring a very structured method and have excellent systems and procedures,” he says. “Coupled with great communications skills I feel both owners and purchasers are kept fully informed which I believe can reduce the stress and anxiety throughout the process.”

Real estate is a uniquely people focussed industry and Calvin’s previous experiences as a teacher and professional rugby player in Europe have held him in good stead. “I am a qualified teacher and had been teaching locally,” he explains. “I loved my job but was at a point in my career where I was ready for a new challenge. So when my friend – and now colleague – suggested I consider real estate, I did my papers, joined Harcourts in August 2015 and have never looked back. What I especially love about this industry is knowing I had a positive part to play in a very significant moment in people’s lives, and helping families move on to the next chapter of their lives.”

Buying and selling
Like in any industry, the real estate sector also comes with its set of challenges, especially in these unprecedented times. According to Calvin, the biggest challenge right now is hesitancy, both from buyers and sellers. “However, I feel there are real opportunities out there at the moment and I am more than happy to catch up for a coffee and offer my thoughts and expertise.”

For those planning to list their properties on the market, Calvin’s No.1 advice is presentation. “The best advice I can offer is firstly call me for a friendly chat and then I’ll most likely suggest that you tidy up your property to make it neat and clutter free.”

If you are looking to buy, don’t miss out on a perfectly good home just because you are hoping to find something better. “Don’t delay,” says Calvin. “At some stage the market will pick up again. We have seen the auction rooms filling and higher success rates at auctions in the last few weeks. Now is the time!”

In this backdrop, it is important to have the right real estate salesperson on your side. “You need someone who is highly organised with excellent systems and procedures, has experience selling in tough markets and has outstanding communication skills.”

Outlook for the Coast
Having grown up locally, Calvin has observed how the region has changed over the years, becoming a highly sought after location for people escaping the big city. “I wish I had a crystal ball, however people are always keen to move to the beautiful Hibiscus Coast, with everything that is on offer, therefore I feel the market will stabilise in the short term and if we can read anything from the past, prices will start increasing again, it is just a matter of when.”

He cites his own example to illustrate that people simply can’t resist the call of the Coast. “I left and went overseas to Europe to play professional rugby for 10 years. I met my Australian wife in Scotland and we relocated back here as she loved the vibe and everything the Coast has to offer. I believe it is an outstanding place, not only to live but to bring up children.”

Life outside real estate
Despite his busy schedule, Calvin always finds time to do the things that matter to him. “I love spending time with my family and friends. My kids are heavily involved in sports and I really enjoy watching them play. Personally, I go to the gym four mornings a week at 5am which is great to kickstart the day and helps to get the energy levels up. I love playing most sports, I just need a few more hours in the day to fit them in. My wife and I also love walking our dogs at the fabulous local beaches – it is a fantastic way to unwind after a busy day.”

Plus, Calvin and his family support numerous local sporting and community groups.
