Coastguard North Shore

Our Mission – To Save Lives At Sea

Coastguard North ShoreCoastguard North Shore (CGNS) is a charitable organisation of dedicated volunteers who willingly give up their time to make a contribution to the safety of the local boating community by being on call 24/7 for those in need.

CGNS volunteers bring a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds to the Unit with the common aim of assisting those in times of need on the water.

CGNS is on the water every weekend and on public holidays and is ready to respond anywhere in the inner and outer Hauraki Gulf.

The boat is kept at premises at Browns Bay Marine Centre in Beachfront Lane. CGNS is a purpose built vessel and is launched by tractor off Browns Bay Beach. The boat is a 9.5m AMF alloy RIB, powered by two 250hp Yamaha engines and is well equipped with navigational, medical and rescue equipment to enable the crew to deal with most situations.

Regular training ensures that the crew are ready day and night to respond to a broad range of urgent and non urgent situations. All operational volunteers attend a range of boating courses and Coastguard training modules to ensure that they are well prepared.

CGNS is part of Coastguard NZ, a nationwide charitable organisation made up of over 2000 volunteers who man 92 dedicated rescue vessels around the country. CGNS has one of the busiest rescue vessels in the country and between January to September 2012, the boat has already logged over 780 hours on the water.
